The Perla Cemetery is in need of a Ground Penetrating Radar System (GPR)
In order for us to recognize the unmarked graves in the Perla Cemetery we have to use a GPR system. There are several makes and models of GPR systems. We are using the LMX200 as an example of how they look and function. If you own or have access to a GPR system that we could use, we would be most appreciative. Our goal is to survey the entire cemetery so we can re-establish, with accuracy, the number of gravsites that are available and to mark unknown gravesites with markers so that the remains will not be disturbed. With your support and help this goal can be achieved!
LMX200 Ground Penetrating Radar
The LMX200 is a compact ground-penetrating radar (GPR) system used for locating and mapping subsurface features. It is designed for utility locating and forensic survey work and is capable of detecting both metallic and non-metallic targets. The unit is frequently used by utility crews, surveyors, and forensic teams because it can reveal buried pipes, tanks, concrete structures, and disturbances in soil that indicate buried objects or features.
For cemetery work, GPR like the LMX200 can be an important tool to locate unmarked graves or to map burial plots where records are incomplete. By scanning grid lines across a burial area and reviewing the radar profiles, an experienced operator can identify changes in soil stratigraphy, soil disturbances, and anomalies that are consistent with graves or burial shafts. Success depends on soil type, moisture content, burial depth, and other site conditions; sandy, dry soils tend to give clearer returns than highly conductive or clay-rich soils.
